"Star of the Sea" (Stella Maris) is one of the oldest titles for the Virgin Mary, used for centuries by sailors navigating by starlight and, later, by emigrants crossing the ocean toward a new and uncertain life. It fits anyone facing a crossing they can't fully control.
Hail, Star of the Sea, loving Mother of God, and ever Virgin, happy gate of Heaven. You who received the greeting of Gabriel, guide us through the waters we now cross, whatever they may be. Keep us safe from the storm, hold our course steady, and bring us at last to the shore where you wait, Mother of grace, Mother of mercy. Amen.
