Into Your Hands (Compline Night Prayer)

Compline, the Church's final prayer of the day in the Liturgy of the Hours, has used this line from Psalm 31 for centuries as its closing words each night. Monastic communities still sing it every evening — it is meant to be the very last thing said before silence and sleep.
Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit. You have redeemed me, Lord God of truth. Guard me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings. I will lie down in peace and sleep comes at once, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. Amen.
