A Prayer of Trust in God's Providence
In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus tells His listeners not to worry about what they will eat or wear, pointing to the birds and the lilies as proof of God's care. This prayer is not a direct quotation of that passage but a petition written in its spirit, for anyone anxious about making ends meet.
Lord, You told us not to worry about tomorrow, yet tonight I am worried about it anyway. Quiet my anxious calculations for a moment, and remind me that You have never once forgotten to care for me. Help me to do my part honestly and diligently, and to leave the rest, the part I cannot control, in Your hands. Give me today what I need for today, and give me the faith not to fear tomorrow. Amen.
