Prayer for a Deceased Parent
Written for anyone praying for a mother or father who has died, this prayer draws on the Church's traditional confidence in God's mercy rather than reciting a historical text word for word. It gives thanks for a parent's life while entrusting their soul to God.
Lord, I thank you for the life of my mother and father, for their love, their sacrifices, and their care for me. Where they fell short, forgive them; where they loved well, reward them. Welcome them into your eternal home, and let perpetual light shine upon them. Comfort me in my grief, and help me to honor their memory by the way I live. Amen.
