In Paradisum
In Paradisum is the ancient antiphon sung at the end of the Catholic funeral Mass, as the coffin is carried out of the church. Its words picture the newly departed soul being welcomed by angels and led gently into paradise — one of the most consoling texts in the whole funeral liturgy.
May the angels lead you into paradise; may the martyrs come to welcome you and take you to the holy city, the new and eternal Jerusalem. May choirs of angels welcome you and lead you to the bosom of Abraham, and where Lazarus is poor no longer, may you find eternal rest.
